After the Core PCE spike to 4,219, gold sold off through New York to 4,147.55 and opened Asia around 4,155, just above the 4,136–4,143 buy zone (Monday and Tuesday's London and New York lows).
Key levels
The plan
- Zones first: buy a bounce at 4,136–4,143, sell a rejection at 4,166–4,172.
- Testing (separately): a 1-hour wick rejection at a gamma level, entered on the next 1h candle.
What happened
The 07:00 Thai hour dropped from 4,156 to 4,139.29, through the gamma Put Support at 4,143.5 and into our buy zone, then closed back up at 4,145.29: a 1h wick rejection at a gamma level, with our zone underneath. I bought the open of the next hour at 4,145.26 with a mental stop under the wick at 4,139.36. It went straight up with almost no heat (lowest 4,145.10) and I closed at 4,155.88 seven minutes later, about 1.8R. Bitcoin: the 10:00 UK hour wicked to 83,894 inside the 83,850–83,970 sell zone and closed back at 83,776. I sold the 11:00 UK open with the stop above the wick at 83,915.63, opened a second 0.01 by mistake 20 seconds later, and closed both two minutes later around 83,630: about 1R. Bitcoin again at 12:58 UK: the 12:00 UK hour wicked to 84,039.52, through the gamma Call Resistance (next expiry) at 84,025, and was closing back below it. I sold 0.04 lots at 83,968.90 a minute before that candle closed, with the stop above the wick at 84,114.22, and took profit at 83,771.00 at 13:50 UK: about 1.4R, +£5.99.
Trades
1h wick rejection at the gamma Put Support (4,143.5) inside the 4,136–4,143 buy zone; entered on the next 1h candle's open. Separate test strategy. Mental stop (not placed) at 4,139.36. About 1.8R, +106 pips. +£8.00 before £0.04 commission.
1h wick rejection at the 83,850–83,970 sell zone (Wed Asia / London highs); entered on the next 1h candle's open. Two 0.01 sells opened 20 seconds apart by mistake (83,800.75 and 83,741.25), logged as one trade at the average prices. Physical stop above the wick at 83,915.63. Position 1 made 1.46R, position 2 0.65R: about 1R combined. No commission on BTC.
1h wick rejection at the gamma Call Res (next expiry) 84,025 (OI 8.6k BTC); sold as the 1h candle closed back below it. Physical stop above the wick at 84,114.22. Sized from the risk: 0.04 lots on a $145 stop. Entered at 12:58:52 UK, about a minute before the 12:00 UK candle closed (the rule is to wait for the close). About 1.4R. No commission on BTC.
Lessons
- Second 1h gamma rejection in a row, and this one had our zone underneath it too. Two winners is still only two data points: the 1h gamma idea stays a separate forward test.
- Bitcoin lot size: 0.01 BTC is only $1 per $100 move, so a $150–250 stop risks $1.50–2.50, a third of a gold trade. Size BTC from the risk: lots = $ risk ÷ stop distance ($6 ÷ $200 = 0.03).
- Sized the second Bitcoin trade from the stop (0.04 lots for a $145 stop): it made £5.99 for 1.4R, about what a gold trade makes. The entry came a minute before the 1h candle closed; the test rule is to wait for the close.
