Gold held its 4,166–4,172 floor overnight (dip to 4,165.72 at the gamma Put Support), rallied to 4,202 into the 4,195–4,203 sell zone, then Core PCE and GDP at 19:30 Thai spiked it to 4,219.
Key levels
The plan
- Zones first: buy a bounce at 4,166–4,172, sell a rejection at 4,195–4,203 (conditional on a tight enough stop).
- Testing (separately): a 1-hour wick rejection at a gamma level, entered on the next 1h candle, out around 1R or at the hour close.
What happened
The London sell at 4,195–4,203 played out without a valid entry: the rejection high (4,202.25) broke the plan's cap and price never came back to the entry. At 19:30 Thai Core PCE and GDP spiked gold to 4,219.30, right at the gamma GEX 2 level (4,218.5), and the 1-hour candle closed back down at 4,208.36: a clean 1h wick rejection. I sold the open of the next hour at 4,207.30 with the stop above the wick and took about 1R at 4,193.95 twenty minutes later.
Trades
1h wick rejection at gamma GEX 2 (4,218.5) after Core PCE; entered on the next 1h candle's open. Separate test strategy (Jason trades it when he can't watch the 5m/1m, e.g. at work). About 1R. +£10.05 before £0.04 commission.
Trades I skipped (and why)
- 15:35 Thai: Sell the rejection at 4,195–4,203. The rejection high (4,202.25) went above the plan's 4,199.5 cap and price never returned to the 4,196+ entry. It then fell to 4,183 without us.
Lessons
- A 1-hour wick rejection at a gamma level after big news was the cleanest signal of the day. One trade is one data point: the 1h gamma idea stays a separate forward test.
