Gold rallied hard from 4,143 into Friday's Asia session, through the 4,173 gamma Call Resistance and up to the strong 4,203 level, where both the 4-hour and 1-hour candles rejected.
Key levels
The plan
- Gamma levels plus my strong levels: sell rejections at resistance, A+ when the 4-hour and 1-hour reject together at a strong level with gamma.
What happened
At 03:25 UK I sold 0.01 lots at 4,171.59, under the 4,173 gamma Call Resistance, while the rally was still running. It pushed through and stopped me at 4,182.66 at 05:21 UK: −£8.40. Then the A+ came: the 4-hour and 1-hour candles both wicked through 4,203 (with GEX 1 at 4,199) and closed back below. I sold 0.01 lots at 4,193.84 at the 07:00 open, target 4,147.32. It reached 4,168.6 at 13:00 (+$25, about 2.3R) but never got to the target. I held it over the weekend; gold opened Monday and rallied, and the stop was hit at 4,206.10 at 01:14 UK: −£9.02 including swap.
Trades
Sell under the 4,173.4 gamma Call Resistance, entered at 03:25 UK inside the 03:00 candle after a $32 rally. Stopped at 4,182.66 at 05:21 UK. −£8.36 plus £0.04 commission.
A+ setup: 4-hour and 1-hour both wicked through the strong 4,203 (July high + 4,200) with GEX 1 at 4,199 and closed back below; sold the 07:00 open, target 4,147.32. Best price 4,168.62 on Friday 13:00 UK (+$25, about 2.3R). Held over the weekend. Stopped at 4,206.10 on Monday 12 Oct 01:14 UK. −£9.26 + £0.28 swap − £0.04 commission = −£9.02.
Lessons
- The A+ was right for most of Friday (+2.3R at best) but a far target and a weekend hold turned it into a loss. On an open profit that big, take some off or move the stop down before the weekend.
