Bitcoin bounced from Friday's slide below 84,050 and spent Saturday morning grinding back up towards the 84,900–85,000 area, where it had stalled several times since 21 September. Weekend market: thinner volume.
Key levels
The plan
- 1h/4h rejection strategy only: a 1-hour candle wicks through a strong level and closes back, trade the next hour's open, stop beyond the level.
What happened
The 13:00 UK hour pushed to 84,918.03, through my own level at 84,906.53, and closed back below at 84,872.83: a 1-hour rejection (A setup). I sold 0.04 lots at the 14:00 UK open, 84,876.99, with the stop above the level and the 85,000 / gamma 85,014 resistance at 85,043.43 ($166 risk). It sat sideways for hours and went as high as 85,021, $22 from the stop. The first TP (84,707.38) missed by 75 cents: the chart's bid went to 84,691, but a sell closes at the ask, which only reached 84,708 with the $17 spread. I moved the TP up to allow for the spread and it filled at 84,746.87 at 21:50 UK: about 0.8R, +£3.94.
Trades
A setup: 1h wick rejection of my 84,906.5 level (closed back below at 84,872.8); sold the next 1h open, stop above 85,000 / gamma 85,014. Original TP 84,707.38 missed by $0.75 (sell TPs fill at the ask; $17 spread). TP moved to 84,747.9 to allow for the spread; filled 84,746.87 after almost 8 hours. Price came within $22 of the stop. About 0.8R. No commission on BTC.
Lessons
- Stops and take-profits set from TradingView are held on Vantage's server: losing internet (on a flight) doesn't cancel them.
- A sell's take-profit fills at the ASK, which the chart doesn't show: on Bitcoin the spread is about $17, so set sell TPs about $20 above the target (gold: about $0.20–0.30). The first TP missed by 75 cents for exactly this reason.
